ECON 455 International Finance SM: Middle East Case Study Resources Fall 2021

Prepared for Dr. Mostashari by Dan Maynard

Notes

Region Specific Case Study Research Paper & Group Presentation (100 points/10% of your final grade).

This is a five page paper, plus a title page, an executive summary, references page, a table of major economic indicators, a figure comprised of the photograph(s) of your group members and a figure comprised of a map of your country showing its contiguous neighbors.

The region for this semester is the Middle East. Select one of these countries: Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, or the United Arab Emirate (UAE). All of these countries are listed on the Big Mac Index.

Format your paper in APA style using the template provided in the LibGuide. Document your sources in APA style based on the APA Publications Manual (seventh edition). Guidance on APA style is also provided in the "APA style" page of this LibGuide.

The text of your paper should use the required sources, supplemented with your assigned readings, the classroom lectures and discussions, additional research, and your own thoughts.

The content of your table of major economic indicators (Table 1) should be based on these required sources: the Europa World Year Book (online or print), and the Big Mac Index based on the Economist article “Burgernomics” linked in your LibGuide.

Your map (Figure 2) must be adapted from the "Country Map" found in the World Factbook entry for your country (required). The World Factbook is linked in your LibGuide.

Finally, your group presentation should be informed by your Case Study Research Paper. For example, groups will often present slides using charts constructed from the data in their table to illustrate a point.
