Contest Rules
- The contest is open to all current Campbell University undergraduate and graduate students.
- Contestants will submit a creative work, including but not limited to, an essay, short story, poem, photograph, painting, drawing, sculpture, performance, or video. Written works are limited to 7 pages, doubled spaced, 12-point font. Time-based submissions are limited to 12 minutes.
- Submissions must relate to the theme of belonging. "Belonging is the feeling of security and support when there is a sense of acceptance, inclusion, and identity for" a person within a community. (Source: https://diversity.cornell.edu/belonging/sense-belonging)
- Submissions must incorporate at least one Wiggins Memorial Library Archival Primary Source. "A primary source is a first-hand account of an event or topic that was created at the same time as the event or by someone involved in it. Examples of primary sources include diaries, speeches, letters, official records, autobiographies, eye witness accounts, results of an experiment, statistical data, creative writing, and art objects." (Source: Gemini) Submissions may also incorporate primary sources from websites such as the Digital Public Library of America, the Library of Congress, or the National Archives.
- All submissions must be accompanied by a bibliography that includes the primary sources and any other works that were consulted in the creation of the creative work. The bibliography must be formatted in an standard format such as MLA, APA, or Turabian. Please also include your name, phone number and email address.
- Submissions must be emailed to Holley Long at long@campbell.edu or delivered to her office on the first floor of Wiggins Memorial Library in the technical services suite, room 134.
- The deadline is March 31, 2025 at 5pm.
- All entries will be judged by a panel of faculty and librarians. The most compelling submission will receive a prize of $250.
- All entries may be included in an online digital collection entitled, Belonging is Primary.
