Wiggins Memorial Library Archival Resources and Initiatives

Belonging is Primary Contest

Join us in exploring the rich history of Campbell University through primary source documents from the Wiggins Memorial Library Archive. The “Belonging is Primary” contest invites students, both undergraduate and graduate, to use archival primary sources to craft compelling stories of belonging—past or present—that reflect personal or collective experiences within the Campbell community. Primary sources, like letters, photographs, and other artifacts, offer direct insight into historical moments, evoking a sense of connection across time.

Participants will submit a creative work (such as an essay, short story, poem, painting, sculpture, piece of music, video, etc.) that engages with the theme of belonging. Each submission must incorporate and cite at least one primary source from the Wiggins Memorial Library Archive, with additional materials from the Library of Congress or the Digital Public Library of America encouraged.

The most compelling submission will receive a $250 prize. All entries may be included in an online digital collection. The contest deadline is March 31, 2025. Contact Holley Long (long@campbell.edu) for more details.
