Historical Research: Understand the Assignment

Before you do any research you need to understand what the assignment is, and what your professor expects.  At a bare minimum, make sure that you know:

• what citation style do you need to use for citations?
• are there any sources that you can't use?
• are there any sources that you have to use?
• is there a minimum length?
• when is it due?

Are your searches not giving you the results that you were expecting?  Are you having difficulty figuring out what you should be searching for, or which database would be good for your topic?
