ENGL 204: American Literature II for online students: General Information

This guide is designed to assist online students with research for this class. Online resources will be highlighted.

Welcome

This guide is designed for students in the online English 204 American Literature II classes.  What is the difference between this guide, and the guide for on campus students?  A few things:

  1. This guide is going to focus online resources.  Very few of you will be coming to the physical library so I want to highlight our online resources that you can use.  (You are of course more than welcome to come to the main library)
  2. The time lines for the on campus and off campus classes are different.  This guide is designed to reflect the online class schedule.

Basic Search Suggestions

In the Books & Media Tab:

  • Conduct a subject search on the author of the work in question.  This will give you books about the author.
  • Don't forget to use Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT).  These can help you focus your results.
  • If you are looking for literary criticism, try a subject search on the author's last name AND criticism.
  • If your author is associated with a literary movement (e.g. Harlem Renaissance) do a subject search on the movement.

If you are having difficulty finding information, talk to your professor or one of the librarians at the Research Assistance desk.
