Community Faculty Resources: Table of Contents Services

What is a Table of Contents Service?

Regularly scanning the tables of contents of your favorite journals is a great way to stay current--but it can also be time-consuming and complicated--especially if you don't have access to the journal.

Table of Contents (TOC) services make the current tables of contents of multiple journals available either for immediate viewing or for regular delivery as new issues are published.

There are many ways to locate tables of contents.  Ovid SP and JournalTOCs offer two simple alternatives to getting started.

JournalTOCs

JournalTOCs is a web site which includes over 23,136 scholarly journals that make their tables of contents available electronically.

  • JournalTOCs can be searched by journal title or by ISSN (international standard serial number)

  • Users can also generate an alphabetical list of the "most followed" journals on the site.

  • Examine the current Tables of Contents of any journal by clicking its title.

  • Elect to receive a journal's table of contents as new issues are made available via RSS feed.

  • Users can also search for articles.  If the articles are available for free, links are provided.

  • To have Table of Contents sent automatically, users must complete a free registration process.

  • Users can "follow" up to thirty journals at no charge.

The library staff can help you locate any journal articles you discover through Table of Contents services.
